Spooks Sequence 2

Spooks Sequence 2
Sequence Order for Action A- In the Office
What is happening?
1)      We see the establishing shot of the MI5 building. When we go inside we see two men in an office. They are on two computers, one is a laptop and the other is an Apple Mac. The man is typing on to the computer information from the laptop and encrypting files of information on people. In the office something is now being encrypted on the laptop and to the computer. The man who is also in the office with the guy on the computer gets ready by zipping up his coat. You then see the man in the office locking away the laptop in a finger locked case. He then leaves.
What information are you given?
2)      The audience is not given very much information, we see a man with a case that has been locked with a high tech system so the connotes that it is important and that this is top secret. We are also given the information that it’s at MI5 as the logo is on the files when they are encrypted. We can see the faces of the people whose files are being encrypted.

3)      What information is withheld?
We are given an enigma to what the man is going to do with the laptop or why he has it. We do not know a lot about that. The audience also do not know who the people in the warehouse are and what connection they have to MI5 or what connection they have to the encrypted files. We also don’t know where the files are going and why they are so important and be so closely guarded.
4)      Why is this sequence important?
This sequence is important as it establishes were we are and who the main characters are. It also is an introduction to the storyline and the enigma keeps you interested to find out what happened.
5)      Why do we need to see other scenes in-between these scenes?
The intercutting of each sequence creates tension and pace. The scenes have to be intercutting to show that they have relation to each other and that the characters are somehow linked. The audience want the suspense to build as this keeps their level of interest high. The intercutting also shows that these events are happening at the same time in different locations.
Sequence orders for ACTION B- The Thieves get ready
Why do you think we cut to see this action in-between the scenes at MI5?
6)      I think that this is done to create tension and create an enigma about who these people are and what connection they have to the people in the office. It also creates a link between the events.

7)      What did you/ do you think they are doing when we first see them?

I thought that they were taking of any metal or sharp objects, or any means that they can be identified with. You can see a chain and a blackberry in the same case.

8)      What clues do you use to make sense of their inclusion?

9)      Why do we see less of the thieves?
We see less of the thieves because an enigma about them and who they are needs to be created. By keeping it mysterious tension builds for the audience. It also implies that it is secretive.

10)    How soon do we know what they are doing? Why does it take so long?
It took me a while to work out exactly what they were doing as not very much is shown and the clip was quite dark. It takes so long as enigma needs to be created surrounding the characters. It also makes them nervous as they are trying to work out what they are doing themselves, which might be more dramatic.
